“We believe in the strength of the human spirit.
Our mission is to respect and support children and families as they strive to reach their potential within the community.”
Washington County Head Start / Early Head Start (Washington County, NY) has been making a difference in people’s lives for over 40 years by providing services that enrich the lives of children and their families. We serve 310 Head Start children – ages 3-5 years, and 110 Early Head Start pregnant women, and children from birth to 3 years of age. Services are provided via home and center-based options. In this rural region of northern upstate New York, employment, housing, and isolation are major issues for families. Low-income families with young children face a major challenge just to keep the home, hearth, and family together.
We provide comprehensive education, health, nutrition and parent involvement services to low-income families and their children. The scope of our programs allows us to provide seamless services from pregnancy through age 5. We take great care to provide smooth transitions within all of our programs.
We are funded by the Department of Health and Human Services as a part of the 1965 War on Poverty. We operate under the umbrella of the Washington County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc., the Community Action Agency serving Washington County EOC, Inc. Head Start / Early Head Start is a grantee of the Federal Government under the Department of Health and Human Services.
