Health Services staff insures the health and safety of children, families, and staff participating at Head Start/Early Head Start.  In accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards the health staff insures that each child, before entering the program, has an up to date physical and has received appropriate immunizations.  Vision, hearing, height, weight, and dental screenings must be completed within 45 days after entering Head Start.

Specific medical plans are established for individual children with special conditions. Health issues are monitored throughout the year via the Comprehensive Case Management process and monthly status reports reviewed by the Health staff.

It is Head Start/Early Head Start's goal to help each family establish a medical home and proactive preventive care.  We support parents in this process and help them understand typical medical practices.  Health staff also responds to daily health issues at the centers such as illness, injury, new enrollees, and general questions.

Community partnerships and parent education are vital to effective health service at Head Start/Early Head Start.  We work closely with Public Health, WIC, many area physicians and dentists, Hudson Headwaters Health Network, Planned Parenthood, Community Maternity Services, Social Services, and area schools.  These collaborations have provided numerous services for our children and families in Washington County.  We appreciate their commitment to our families.
