Washington County Head Start / Early Head Start and Child Care Programs, New York

The Dix Avenue Center is located at 1219 Dix Avenue, Hudson Falls in the central and western area of Washington County. The center, which has had several additions and expansions over the years, was originally a small schoolhouse. The center has four classrooms, serving 102 preschool children mainly from Hudson Falls and Fort Edward. The children are served by 4 teaching teams and 4 family workers, cook and assistant cook. Bus drivers, home visitors, a health worker, the education, assistant education, family services, transportation, and home based coordinators have office space at this site.

The center also serves as the base for the home based program; classrooms are used on Mondays for peer socialization experiences. Other spaces are used for parent and staff meetings, a large motor room, and a library of children’s and professional books and materials. There is a well-equipped, large outdoor playground area. We are currently renting one classroom to the United Cerebral Palsy program.
