Our Program started in 1967 in Washington County. We were just a summer program at that time. The next year we started the school year program as the community needed more than just a summer program. We currently have 310 Head Start children.
Our Home Based Program began in 1974. We have continued to increase the number of children in our home based program yearly. We now have 66 preschool home based families and 70 Early Head Start home based families.
Early Head Start begain in 1988. Twice we have expanded our program, and currently have 110 Early Head Start children in our program.
This comprehensive program is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services as a part of the 1965 War on Poverty. We operate under the umbrella of the Washington County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. Head Start / Early Head Start is a grantee of the Federal Government under the Department of Health and Human Services.
